Greathouse Labs::

Started by Lance after the cancellation of Robot Wars and Battlebots. He was seeking a way to continue a passion for designing and constructing strange and unusual machinery. After constructing and displaying several fire machines at local art events, Lance discovered he was not alone in his admiration of fire's beauty and power.

GL has constructed many specialized machines, robots, sculptures and vehicles. At any given time there are several new projects under construction and more on the drawing board. GL performs several times a year at local and regional events including the Maker Faire and Burning Man.

We're interested in performing at events where an audience might be receptive to our art form. If you're creating such an event and would like to have anything from a low-key sculpture to an all-out inferno, please contact us! Thanx!

Lance Greathouse [aka Blaster]::

Growing up with a family whose life revolved around sand buggies and hot rods, I found myself always tinkering with some kind of machinery. As a child my brother Brent and I were always helping our father Jim construct some kind of hand built car or project. After graduating from electronics school I took the skills I learned and combined them with the ones my father taught me and began to experiment with electronics and basic walking machines. After building several proto-types I found that persistence was the most important thing learned in building projects with my father and brother.

My younger brother Brent lost his long battle with Parkinsons disease in 2004, I will never forget his ingenuity and attention to detail he instilled in me. Since then I am continually coming up with new ideas, trying to find the resources and time to build them. I competed in Robot Wars in London before it was canceled here and really like the challenge an originality of it. Since then I have concerted on building robots and fire machines for various entertainment and art events. As the popularity of this kind of art seems to grow, I hope to make this a full time venture.

Jim Greathouse::

Freinds and family have allways known Jim for his ability to make things that were unique or different, often constructed from things that others would not think of. At 72 years of age he has constructed over 80 various car projects including most of the street legal vehicles that GL creates.

Scott Brown [aka Hot Foot]::

Fabricator, machinist, chief chef and bottle washer, Lance and Scott met in High School and participated in a local robot event called BotBash. Typically wears sandals in the shop, hence the nickname. Scott has helped with many of the remote control issues and happens to be one of the finest chefs we've ever met. Without him, we usually starve at events or eat fast food. Does pretty good with the camera too.

Kenn Ranous::

Photographer, Videographer & Web-Miester, Kenn also helps with shows and promotions. Secondary responsiblities include (but are not limited to) fixing stuff, breaking it again and keeping Lance from getting any rest after shows by going to after parties. As of lately, he's finally put down that camera, picked up a torch and started building. Kenn's imaging work can be seen online: rano.us
